工学学士学位, Mechanical Engineering Major
Mechanical engineering encompasses the analysis, 发展, 设计, 和 testing of a wide range of mechanical systems including machines that involve mechanics, 运动, 能源:替代能源系统, 生物医学设备, 机器人系统, 车辆, 飞机, 引擎, 暖通空调系统, 工业设备.
Integral to all four years of the program is a "设计 和 build" educational philosophy incorporated through extensive laboratory 和 project activities as preparation for professional practice. 学生 engage in 设计 at all levels of the curriculum. At each level, they must realize their 设计s 和 proceed with testing, validation, 和 re设计. This approach allows students to experience many real-world constraints such as project economics, 项目计划和进度安排, 环境注意事项, manufacturability/producibility of the 设计s, 实验室及产品安全, 以及产品的可靠性.
The junior 和 senior years of the mechanical engineering program build upon the freshman 和 sophomore courses to provide greater depth in mechanical 设计, 和 dynamic systems as well as additional background in thermal-fluid sciences 和 engineering. 学生 complete required courses in these areas 和 select from electives in the same areas, 和/或制造, 和 emerging fields including biomedical engineering, 以及替代能源系统.
学生 who elect the mechanical engineering program may prepare themselves for a wide range of engineering careers 和 fulfill the educational requirements for taking the Fundamentals of Engineering examination before graduation.
